Its Friday! However my weekend is looking awfully full at the moment and I could really use some time off to put my feet up.
The Ghidorah Institute went well last night, our new player Toby seemed to fit in very well, as did his character in a bizarre sort of sense. Licking phonebooks and smoking clowns all very well received. 1 hrs RP, 2 hrs laughing our arses off. Good times.
Also, Se7en in 60 seconds

I was never really interested in football. One time at secondary school I was advised that I ought to support a premiership team as I'd be less likely to get beaten up. I picked Barnsley, on the basis that they were certain to lose and I wouldn't have to watch any matches.
However, I have gained a certain soft-spot for Newcastle United thanks to lilac_jellybean. There are certainly ugly parts of the game, with plenty of poor sportsmanship, spitting and arguing with the ref, but I would challenge anyone to have watched last nights Newcastle/West Brom match without being moved.
One of the Newcastle players was on the pitch despite his father having died only a few nights before. The look on his face as he celebrated his equalising goal, raising his eyes upwards was one of the single-most expressive, joyous and grieving moments I think I've ever seen on film.
Remember that the next time you think of football and only conjour up images of fighting in the streets.
ION, I am so very happy to live in a world where people attempt things like this. (be warned, first link is facebook).
I love Innocent Smoothies and their packaging works.
I have an exciting project to be working on although I've just realised how tight the deadline is, now all I need is a decent nights sleep and the energy to not sit on my arse all night in front of the TV.

So Windows are planning to launch their own tablet 'slate' device very shortly, jumping ahead of Apple's iSlate/iBook/iThing.
The good news? They may break Apple's 'our devices look awesome, stop copying us' monopoly they saw with the iPod Touch, leaving the market open for various companies to squabble, cheapen and die.
The bad news appears to be that its probably buggy as all hell, because I have no doubt Microsoft rushed the thing out. Does anyone remember WindowsXP for tablets? No, I thought not.
The main thing is that this means the digital sketchbook is properly on its way. Wireless Wacom compatable pads in Approximate A sizes are probably only a few years away. A few years after that they may become affordable.
Given the quality of the AutoDesk sketchbook even on something as small as an ipod Touch, I find this rather exciting.
Also, the abuse of statistics goes to Microsoft's PR department for this positive spin:
"Windows 7 is by far the fastest selling operating system in history."
or as I prefer to think of it "Windows Vista was by far the most loathed operating system in history."

PS stop breaking, House!

A question for the history-loving types out there...
Apparently medieval parishes had the right of Chancery, allowing them to take moneys from anyone living in the parish (or at least anyone owning property) to pay for upkeep of the local church.
As it turns out, this law is still in effect. The Church can knock on your door and take your cash.
So the question is... Which church would property in King's Hedges be paying this money to?

| We've got so many questions and who's got all the answers for you now? |
[03 Nov 2009|03:59pm] |
Life raises questions - why did I eat that? What could go wrong? Where are my clothes?
In specific, two questions currently vex me:
1. Who on earth did we lend our IT crowd box set to?
Edit: Turns out it was hiding behind the subwoofer, which would explain my confusion.
and
2. If you were writing an acknowledgement letter to a complaint, why would you use the phrase '[I'm sorry/regret]that you felt it neccessary to make a complaint' not just once, but twice? Are they trying to make me feel like I have no cause for action before they've even looked at it?
Answers on a comment..

I have and may continue posting stuff up like this. They're just junk pulled out of my sketchbook, more as a statement of what I'm doing rather than out of any particular pride in the results.
Time to put the kettle on and get ready for vamp.

Some foolish people expressed an interest with the MC system I proposed during the Cam/IoD split.
So here it is in all its dull, dull, dullness. I've had to remove the exciting graphs that demonstrated an MC1 player with no life could gain pretty much the same XP as an MC14 player who only attended his local game. Please forgive the charts for they are made in a disgusting fashion by MS Word because I'm too lazy to code them just for LJ.

So, lots of people seem to be getting themselves worked up over Lost. Its not a venue I play, or even a game-book that I’ve read, but I am at work, it’s a Friday and people seem to be getting far too emotional over what is essentially an overly organised game of dress-up so I’m going to say something anyway.
( ill-informed comments )

| Come meet Dexter Douglas, Nerd computer ace... |

There is a general drive by the now adult nerd populace for scary, hard-edge comics and comic book adaptations. Batman should be dark and gritty, Captain America gets killed, Tony Stark clones a psychotic mutant Thor... all that jazz.
Its nice therefore to see that the very clever people over at WB animation have created a wonderfully camp, playful show. F*ck arkham asylum and check this out:
If you don't think that Gorilla Grodd doing a dance routine with Black Mant and Aquaman isn't awesome, then you have no soul..

So the house hunt continues. We put in an offer but the vendor seems to think 'in need of modernisation' can be solved by moving out the tenants that keeping making curry and opening the windows...
We can wait.
ION the MMR 'conspiracy' continues. A study finds a 1% presence of Autism in adults too, which suggests there has been no increase in cases of Autistic Spectrum since the introduction of the MMR, which you would think would add to all the other discredit that has been dumped on that infamous study.
However, some of the comments left below the article are truly terrifying.
The survey itself is worth a look, because it has some fun stats. My favourite is this:
"in 2007 5.6 per cent of people aged 16 and over reported having ever attempted suicide but were not successful."
Not the way I would have phrased it...
